Jasper Collage

Published by kalilea at 5:36 am under Jasper, Rock Tumblers Edit This

alljasper_finalsmall.jpgI had to add this other photo of the jasper before I leave that subject behind for awhile.  This was taken while I was cleaning the last of the residue from the stones after polishing.

I’ve added a new item to my wish list - a Swap Top All-In Wonder.  It’s a combination trim saw/flat lap that can be used to trim stones and then polish them.  It’s actually supposed to be a complete cabbing system, but I’m not sure how many cabs I’d want to make.  Mostly, I would just like something that could polish stones (like crystals) with multiple flat sides or trim small slabs.  I’ve seen these combo units run anywhere from $300-400, and that’s not really a bad price for all that you’re getting.  Still, it’s a bit more than I want to invest right now.  Maybe I’ll mark it down as a Christmas possible.

what a lovely collection, kalilea. i like most in the collection the small one in the right side, not necessarily at the bottom, seems like three layers of dark purple, light purple and off white.

Melissa - Thanks for the email yesterday letting me know there were problems. I’m not sure what the issue was, but it cleared up last night. I’m sure magic was involved. I’m real curious to hear about that refractometer when you get it - I hope you post a lot and let people know what you think about it.

Sarabella and Betchai - That actually is an amethyst! Ha, you both picked out one of the few stones in that picture that’s not jasper and that I had tossed in the tumbling lot to help balance the load. Good eyes!

Michelle - I like that story - SHINY STUFF RULES! I think that may be one of the reasons that I got into rocks, too. I loved those baskets of tumbled stones when I was a kid. Well, I guess I still love them and rock shops. I was walking through one the other day with a friend and ended up buying a soapstone-carved cat with something that looks like a soapstone-carved fish that can be seen in its stomach. It was the probably the last thing I needed, but I suppose I’m lucky that I got out of there without buying anything else.

Ruthi - Yeah, I’m not sure why I think it’s okay to justify spending more on something at Christmas time, but I somehow manage it. :)
