Updates to Fee Digging Page

Published by kalilea at 3:39 am under Gems and Stones Edit This

Today, I made some updates to the Fee Digs page and added a couple of new locations. There are still a lot of places that I want to add to this list, but I am double checking information first to make sure that what I currently have isn’t outdated. However, if you know of a great place to visit that you think should be added to the list, let me know.

It’s probably not completely correct to call it a Fee Digs page. I’m including all sorts of locales there, but I am trying to make sure I specify what type of “mine” they are as I add them. At some of these places, you are truly out there digging in the virgin ground. These are generally the most expensive digs. At other places, you are going through tailings. This is usually a lot cheaper, and you can still find some pretty interesting stuff. Finally, at other places, you are really just sifting through gravel buckets. Normally, this is the cheapest type of “dig” because you are less likely to find something spectacular. This doesn’t mean that it’s not fun, though.

It’s important to remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or the miner in this case. Specimens that may not appeal to the seasoned miner or rockhound may seem absolutely gorgeous to you. There’s nothing wrong with that. After all, this is about you having fun and finding items that you would like to add to your collection. Sure, we’d all like to find something simply amazing and get rich, but if you’re only in this for the money and don’t appreciate the true natural beauty of the gems, you’re probably better off doing something else.
